D ominantou obce je neskorogotický rímsko katolícky kostol postavený koncom 15. sto ročia. V roku 1990 bol kostol povýšený na „Baziliku minor”.

Od 15. storočia sa v Starých Horách konajú pútnické náboženské zhromaždenia. Súvisí to s údajným zjavením sa Panny Márie pri prameni v lokalite Studnička. Vraví sa, že voda z prameňa má zázračné liečivé účinky, čo priťahuje tisíce pútnikov.

S tarohorská dolina je rozhraním dvoch národných parkov: Veľkej Fatry a Nízkych Tatier. Zo Starých Hôr vedie niekoľko turis tických trás do Veľkej Fatry aj do Nízkych Tatier. V strede obce sa križujú turistické trasy celého regiónu. Obľúbený je chodník na Majerovu skalu, ktorá je prirodzenou do minantou celého okolia.

Stačí si len vybrať z bohatej ponuky ubytovania a príjemná dovolenka sa môže začať.

V juhovýchodnej časti ohraničuje dolinu ďalšia dominanta – Jelenská skala. Lesy okolo obce sú pretkané hustou sieťou lesných ciest, po ktorých vedú dobre značené cyklotrasy a upravené zimné bežecké trate.

A prominent landmark of the village is the late Gothic Roman Catholic church built in the late 15th century. In 1990, the church was given the higher rank of “Basilica minor”. Since the 15th century Staré Hory has been a place of collective pilgrimage. This is related to the apparition of the Virgin Mary at the spring in the Studnička area. Water from the spring is said to have miraculous healing powers which attracts thousands of pilgrims. The valley of Staré Hory is the crossing point between two national parks: Great Fatra and Low Tatras. From Staré Hory several hiking trails go to Great Fatra, as well as to the Low Tatras. In the centre of the village intersect most hiking trails of the whole region. The path to Majerová skala, a natural landmark of the whole area, is very popular. It is easy to choose from a wide range of accommodation, and pleasant holidays can begin. There is another landmark in the south-eastern part of the valley Jelenská skala. Forests around the village are interlaced with a dense network of forest roads, used as well marked bike trails and well groomed winter trails.

Das dominante Denkmal der Gemeinde ist die spätgotische röm. katholische Kirche, die Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts gebaut wurde. Im Jahr 1990 wurde die Kirche zur „Basilika minor“ befördert.

Seit dem 15. Jahrhundert werden in Staré Hory religiöse Pilgertreffen veranstaltet. Es hängt mit der angeblichen Erscheinung der Jungfrau Maria bei einer Quelle im Gebiet von Studnička. Das Quellwasser soll wundersame Heilkräfte haben, was tausende Pilger zu uns bringt. Das Tal Starohorská dolina befindet sich zwischen zwei Nationalparks: der Großen Fatra und der Niederen Tatra. Von Staré Hory führen einige Wanderwege sowohl in die Große Fatra, als auch in die Niedere Tatra. In der Ortsmitte kreuzen sich Wanderwege aus der ganzen Umgebung. Besonderer Beliebtheit erfreut sich der Weg auf den Felsen Majerova skala, der die ganze Umgebung beherrscht. Man muss nur aus dem reichen Angebot von Unterkünften wählen und ein gemütlicher Urlaub kann beginnen. Im südwestlichen Teil des Tales ist der Felsen Jelenská skala unübersehbar. Die Wälder um die Gemeinde herum sind von einem dichten Netz von Waldpfaden verflochten, entlang denen gut gekennzeichnete Radwege und präparierte Langlaufloipen führen.
