Donovaly O bec leží vo výške 850 m nad morom v horskom sedle medzi dvomi národnými parkmi – Veľkou Fatrou a Nízkymi Tatrami – na magistrále spájajúcej Banskú Bystri cu s Liptovom. Pôvodná obec vznikla zo

siedmich uhliarskych osád založených Banskou komo rou. Rodinné osady Bully, Hanesy, Mistríky, Mišúty, Mo čiar, Polianka a Sliačany sa postupne zbližovali a v roku 1710 sa rozhodli, že ich spoločným centrom bude obec Donovaly. V roku 1828 žilo na Donovaloch 475 obyvate ľov, ktorí sa živili prácou v lesoch a výrobou dreveného uhlia pre medené huty.

P očas Slovenského národného povstania bolo v obci sídlo veliteľstva I. československej armády na Slovensku. V poslednom období sa obec postupne mení na turistické centrum zimných a letných športov. Vďaka dobrým snehovým podmienkam v nadmorskej výš ke 900 – 1360 m sa stáva vyhľadávaným lyžiarskym strediskom. Vybudovali sa nové hotely, penzióny, reštaurácie, lanovky, sedačky a lyžiarske vleky. die Banská Bystrica und Liptov verbindet. The village is located in the altitude of 850 metres above sea level in mountain pass between two national parks – the Great Fatra and the Low Tatras and on the main road linking Banská Bystrica with the Liptov region. The original village was founded by joining seven settlements dealing with charcoal, established by the Chamber of Mining. The Family settlements of Bully, Hanesy, Mistríky, Mišúty, Močiar, Polianka and Sliačany had progressively expanded and in 1710 they decided to unite and establish their common centre in the village of Donovaly. In 1828 in the village of Donovaly, there were 475 residents who made their living by working in forestry and the production of charcoal for copper smelters. During the Slovak National Uprising the village was the seat of the headquarters of I. Czechoslovak Army in Slovakia. In recent years, the village has gradually changed into a tourist centre for winter and summer sports. Thanks to good snow conditions in the surrounding areas, which have an altitude of 900 – 1,360 metres, it has become a popular ski resort. New hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, ski lifts, chair lifts and ski lifts have been built here.
